Overrated By: 2K Insider | Wednesday November 19 2008 As some of you have noted, there have been a lot of requests for players to be bumped up but not enough cases made for guys to get knocked down. Therefore I'm dedicating this posting to players who you feel are the most overrated in the current 2K9 roster. In no particular order, the candidates who are on the bubble are:
Steve Nash - First let me say that Nash has been one of the best stories in the NBA in recent years. This unlikely hero won back to back league MVP's, proving that team play prevails over the me first attitude that has dominated the NBA. He gave hope to all the young basketball players out there who aren't the fastest, tallest or most talented on their teams. That said, Nash's numbers are down this season after a strong run since joining the Suns in 2004. His assists are down from 11.1 to 7.5 per game and he's scoring about 3.2 ppg less as well. He's shooting under .500 FG% for the first time since 2003-04, his last year in Dallas. Add the coaching change from D'Antoni to Porter and I don't really see Nash's decline as temporary.
Elton Brand - There was a time when you could guarantee Elton Brand would average 20 and 10 for the season. I didn't understand it then and still don't understand it now why the Bulls traded him after his second season so they could draft Eddy Curry and Tyson Chandler. After sitting out most of 2007-08 due to injury, E.B. has a new home in Philly. The city was energized after they signed him as a free agent, but their dreams have fallen short so far. Brand is only averaging 15.5 ppg on 0.440 FG%. Not so good for a career 0.504 FG% low post scorer.
Tracy McGrady - We all know the rap on T-Mac. When healthy he's an all-around talent capable of doing almost anything on the court. The problem is, when is he ever healthy? Prior to his latest knee injury, he was under performing compared to last season. Scoring is down from 21.6 ppg to 15.9 ppg and, if you watched him play this year, you could just see he was struggling to be out there. Sure, he showed flashes of brilliance here and there, but overall you could tell he was hurting. So when he went down Monday night after tweaking his knee, no one was surprised.
Shawn Marion - This former All-Star and Olympian has struggled without Steve Nash to spoon feed him or D'Antoni's anything goes offense. In 9 games this year, The Matrix is averaging a paltry 10.4 ppg on 0.443 FG%. Yuck! I don't really see this trend improving that much on this Heat team. Marion cannot create his own shot and without a top tier point guard to set him up, this is what you get.
Jason Kidd - Many of you have called for his ratings to go down. I know he's not the same player he used to be, but he's still putting up solid numbers - 8.4 apg / 6.9 rpg / 2.6 spg / 0.372 3P% through 11 games. There aren't many point guards who are putting up those kinds of stats. So if you still think Kidd is overrated, tell me specifically which attributes are too high.
So there you have 5 players who are candidates to get their ratings knocked down. Tell me who you think should get the same treatment.
There are a couple of adjustments I believe could be made...Luis Scolas Mid Range shot because he scores most of his points through mid range and he has a 50% fg, Yao's Block Rating because he is averaging just as many blocks or more than other players with higher block ratings as well as same minutes as Yao (ex. Sheed, Horford, Perkins) Kobes mid range jumpshot is probably the biggest mistake in the ratings Kobe is without a doubt a 90+ mid range jump shooter i agree with the 3 pt rating tho.
Caron Butler has struggled out the gate averaging 16.8 ppg on 0.397 FG% over 8 games. Perhaps he won't struggle as much when Antawn Jamison finally returns to the lineup.

Sacramento Kings - Tyreke Evans
Tyreke Evans has flourished since Kevin Martin went down with injury, averaging 23.0 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 5.0 apg and 1.4 spg. His confidence is sky high right now which bodes well for his eventual return to running point for the Kings.

Milwaukee Bucks - Brandon Jennings
Brandon Jennings lit up the Warriors for 55 points Saturday night in a performance that had everyone talking. The Bucks finally got it right and looks to have gotten the steal of the draft this year.

Los Angeles Clippers - Chris Kaman
The bright spot for the Clippers has been Chris Kaman's improved offense of 21.8 ppg on 0.543 FG%. The NBA recently recognized him by naming Kaman the Western Conference Player of the Week.

Los Angeles Lakers - Andrew Bynum
Andrew Bynum is holding it down in the middle for the Lakers with 20.3 ppg, 11.8 rpg and 1.8 bpg averages. It's nice to finally see the young big man healthy and productive after some unfortunate injuries in recent years.

New York Knicks - Toney Douglas
Toney Douglas has provided the Knicks with bench scoring over the last few games. No doubt Mike D'Antoni is frustrated with Chris Duhon's lack of scoring this year.

Chicago Bulls - Joakim Noah
Joakim Noah is averaging 12.1 ppg, 12.4 rpg and 2.0 bpg and providing a presence in the paint. This is exactly what the Bulls were hoping for when they made him their 2007 lottery pick.

Indiana Pacers - Roy Hibbert
Second year center, Roy Hibbert, has improved significantly by averaging 12.6 ppg, 9.1 rpg and 2.5 bpg. He looks to be in better shape and understands his role better this time around.

Philadelphia 76ers - Samuel Dalembert
Samuel Dalembert's production has taken a dip with averages of 6.2 ppg and 6.8 rpg. Now that Marresse Speights is out for extended time, the Sixers need Sammy D to step it up.

New York Knicks - Chris Duhon
Chris Duhon can't hit the side of a barn, averaging 6.5 ppg on 0.228 FG%. This has allowed Toney Douglas to get significant run in recent games.
